Brow Lift vs Blepharoplasty Which Is Right for You

When it comes to brow lift vs blepharoplasty, scheduling a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon is your best bet for knowing which procedure is right for you.

Both procedures can do wonders for your appearance. Still, you’ll want to undergo the surgery that specifically addresses your primary concerns.

Below, we’ll take a closer look at each procedure to help you narrow down which might benefit you the most.

Blepharoplasty vs Brow Lift

Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery) Overview

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery or eyelid lift surgery, is a commonly performed plastic surgery for patients who have excess eyelid skin or fat and/or loose muscle near the upper or lower eyelids.

These issues then cause sagging upper eyelids or bags beneath the eyes. Sagging upper eyelids can cause the patient to look tired and older than they actually are and may even cause vision obstruction as well.

Blepharoplasty gets rid of excess skin, fat, and muscle and gently tightens, lifts, and smooths the eyelids and eye area for a younger more rested appearance.

Brow Lift Overview

Brow lift surgery, sometimes called forehead lift surgery, does not focus on the eyelids, but instead focuses right above them on the brows. Sagging brows and excess skin and fat in this area canBlepharoplasty vs brow lift cause patients to look tired and older than they actually are.

By reducing redundant skin and fat around the brows and tightening the underlying muscles, a brow lift targets the major signs of aging, and we can give the patient a more youthful appearance. We can also improve vision caused by sagging upper eyelids in some cases.

4 Questions to Ask

1. Has my vision been compromised due to sagging eyelids?

In most cases, if your vision has been compromised due to sagging eyelids, you’ll want to get an eyelid lift surgery. While an eyebrow lift can sometimes take some of the weight off of your eyelids to relieve the sagging there, you’re really not going to get the full effect of improved vision without an eyelid lift.

2. How far up on my face does skin drooping occur?

What we’re really wondering here is whether you have sagging on your eyebrows and on your forehead or if it’s mostly around your eyelid area. Because the skin around the eyes is extra delicate, this is usually where we see most of the wrinkles and fine lines accumulate on the face.

But if you’re also having sagging and wrinkles on your eyebrow area (directly above your eyelids between your lids and brows), on your forehead, and between your eyes, then we may want to do a forehead lift to address these issues.

3. Am I happy with my forehead’s appearance?

Take a look in the mirror and examine your forehead overall. If you have deep forehead wrinkles, these can be addressed with a forehead lift or an eyebrow lift in many cases.

If you feel your forehead looks fine, however, and you don’t have any issues you’d like to address — but you do have sagging eyebrows or loose skin around your eyes — then an eyelid lift may be more appropriate for you.

4. Am I happy with my under eye appearance?

Lastly, consider the area below your eyes. Some people will get lower eyelid cosmetic surgery to correct excess skin that collects below the eyes.

Sometimes, there are bags of fat there, and the muscles can become loose too — all of which can create a tired, sad appearance. If any of these issues are bothering you, then lower blepharoplasty may be a good surgery for you.

FAQ: Lower & Upper Blepharoplasty vs Brow Lift

Does a brow lift get rid of hooded eyes?

Hooded eyes occur when the skin above the eyelid comes down, almost to the upper eyelash line, and this makes the upper eyelid barely visible. A brow lift procedure can indeed get rid of hooded eyelids because a upper lid blepharoplasty removes excess skin and helps relieve heaviness from the upper lids. If this is an issue that is bothering you.

How much does blepharoplasty vs brow lift cost?

The cost of each of these surgeries is really going to depend on the specifics of your procedure. Some patients may undergo both an upper left lower plasty, and a lower blood flower plasty at the same time while other patients may be getting an upper blue plasty with a lateral brow lift or a direct brow lift, or any number of other combinations.

In general, if you’re only getting a brow list, the cost is going to be slightly more than only getting upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery.

Upper blepharoplasty vs brow liftCan you do blepharoplasty and brow lift together?

Absolutely. Brow lifts are often combined with endoscopic brow lift surgery. If you have drooping brows and sagging skin on your eyelids, then a combination of brow lift surgery and eyelid lift surgery can certainly improve the appearance of your upper face.

As a side note, either surgery can also be combined with other facial procedures such as those that correct frown lines, lift the neck area, or rhinoplasty to alter the shape and size of the nose.
